Intersting Facts about Penguins

King Penguins:

Amazingly to my surprise I found out that penguins glow in the dark.

I also found out this about the King Penguin.  They are neat.

Did you know the King Penguin is the second-largest penguin in the world.  P.S.  The largest penguin is the Emperor Penguin.

These interesting fats about the penguins I found at a different site.  But I hope you enjoy them.  “They can dive up 300 m (985 ft.) and swim as fast as 10 km/h (6 mph).”

Penguins have specially adapted eyesight.  Their pupils shrink to the size of a pinhole.

Hope you enjoyed these interesting facts.

You can find King Penguins in Antarctica and the Falkland Islands.  There groups are as large as 600,000 birds.  Each family has it’s own space.  They prefer beaches or flat and rocky areas.

Rats eat Babyt Penguins

Rats eat baby penguins and penguin eggs.  To answer your question.  I got this information from the article: Comaprison of population numbers of yello-eyed penguins, Megadyptes antipodes, on Steward Island and on adgacent cat-free islands, by Melanie Massaro and David Blair, and the artical Ble Penquin (Eudyptula minor) nest distribution and breading success on Otago Peninsula, 1992 to 1998 by Lyndon Perriman and Harald Steen.

Thank you for sending me all the great comments.

Predators

Penguin Predators

Penguins are food to a number of animals.  They are a prey to leopard seal, sea lions, and orcas.  They are also a type of food to birds, believe it or not.  They are food to the Australian sea eagle, the Skua, the sheathbill and the Caracaras.  Penguins have predators that walk on land, like ferrets, cats, snakes, lizards, foxes, and even rats.
